Retreat Pricing Strategy: Tiers, Deposits & Payment Plans

Once you've set a base price using the cost-stack formula, three more decisions determine whether that price actually fills the retreat: how you tier it, how you structure deposits, and whether you offer payment plans. Get these three right and a fair price still sells fast.

A simple three-tier structure does most of the work: an early-bird price capped by date or spot count, a standard price where most bookings land, and a small last-call premium for the final seats. Tiers should always be tied to a real date or a real capacity limit - never left open-ended, or the urgency they're meant to create disappears.

A non-refundable deposit isn't just cash flow - it's the first layer of protection against last-minute cancellations, which are common and often unrelated to the retreat itself (a change of mind, or an emotional issue someone subconsciously already knew would surface). Pair the deposit with real terms and conditions before you ever take one, so a cancellation doesn't leave you covering non-recoverable venue and vendor costs while also refunding the guest.
